[RBCCV/BJCVS is on PubMed/Medline!].

I he day – October 31, 2007 – will be a remarkable Day in the history of Revista Brasileira de Cirurgia Cardiovascular/Brazilian Journal of Cardiovascular Surgery (RBCCV/ BJCVS) e da Sociedade Brasileira de Cirurgia Cardiovascular (SBCCV)/ Brazilian Society of Cardiovascular Surgery (BSCVS). After so many years of battles started by Prof. Dr. Adib Jatene and continued by Prof. Dr. Fábio Jatene, in this very special date (10/31/2007), we received a letter participating that, at last, we have been accepted on PubMed/Medline. The foresight made by the Editorial, volume 22.3, has finally come true. Thus, RBCCV/BJCVS has become one of the fewer specialty journals to be indexed on that important database. I thank you all who have willingly assisted us and, specially, GOD, for having allowed us to achieve such a distinction for the Brazilian cardiovascular surgery and all South-Hemisphere. The colleagues must feel all sanctioned by this laurel, which recognizes the quality of the Brazilian surgeon!!! Medline is the most important on-line database of medical international literature, addressed to the biomedical scientific journals, sponsored by the National Library of Medicine (NLM), located at the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH). From now on, the international insertion of our journal will be enhanced and, consequently, we will receive more qualified manuscript from abroad. The recognition comes to reward all the efforts and investments undertaken by the SBCCV/BSCVS board of directors over the past few years in the scientific area, as well as guarantee the quality of the work and the high-value scientific production undertaken by the Brazilian cardiovascular surgeon, which made possible this huge conquest. Even in face of previous negative refusals, It never crossed my mind to give up a claim, and in May of the current year, I was in Washington with Dr. Sheldon Kotzin, who is executive editor, MEDLINE, National Library of Medicine. At that time Mr. Kotzin provided useful and important information to be successful on our journal submission. Mr. Kotzin, by the way, insists on congratulating RBCCV/BJCVS, highlighting our effort. The e-mail sent by him is published in the section Letters to the Editor, from now on page XXXX, along with the congratulations given by several co-workers, associates, fellow surgeons, and friends. I cannot forget to highlight the work of the RBCCV/ BJCVS Editorial Board, which has devoted enthusiastically to develop the changes, the refinements, and the formatting of RBCCV/BJCVS to meet the high standards required by Medline in order to get the journal indexed. In the same way, it was critical the Bireme and Scielo support to the right fulfilling of the forms according to Medline standards. From now on, all the RBCCV/BJCVS articles abstracts are already available on PubMed/Medline, starting with the first issue of 2007. The indexation is so important that it was notified in November by the CTSNet Bulletin, a site that assembles some of the most outstanding journals regarding thoracic and cardiovascular surgery worldwide. I am requesting to CTSNet managers to migrate RBCCV/BJCVS from the page “Other Cardiovascular Journals” to “Journals”, in which are the main journals. It is a long and time-consuming process, but we have already proven that it is possible to overcome obstacles otherwise considered unsurmountable. It is critical to emphasize that the indexation is not ours’ journey’s end, but the beginning of new era, which requires increased considerably precautions in order to maintaining the editorial level required as in the scientific part, with the already usual demands from the reviewers when evaluating the manuscripts, as in the graphic art, because the journal will be continuously evaluated. Once more, I want to thank the strong support of everyone! Our next move is to get to be indexed on ISI database, thus giving a definite character of reference T Editorial
